Scrap Attack!

This may look artistic, but I assure you, it is not. I have to admit this looks a lot cooler on the computer but in real life it looks weird.

So my intention was to do what the woman ahead of me had done, this was to make some fancy stamp design and then make it look pretty. I ended up with an imprinted tag...so I "painted" it blue. That didn't end so well. Then I decided to fill in some of the flowers. I started with yellow, because it goes with blue...but then I got bored of it and went for purple. And them sparkly black.

It all ended when I went for Bronze and colored the leaves as such. So now I have some yellow and purple flowers that are...wilting?

So I now have official proof that my creativity halts when anything solid becomes involved. No sculpting for me I'm afraid. I think the world is better off, actually.

So the convention was quite, well, not interesting. There were not a ton of people but one thing did happen! OWLS everywhere. It's a shame because I love them and they don't allow you to take pictures.

More of my GP soon; I'm sure everybody wants to read that.

The Mysterious Ginger: CRASH

One day Bartholomew was skipping down the sidewalk when a small panel with big words pushed him out of the way just to say CRASH! I never knew why it said that word.

Who is this mysterious ginger? What relation does he have with our hero, Barty? Why does he have purple eyes? What are you on, why does it look like that?

Tune in next time for The Mysterious Ginger!

Christmas in July? On a boat?

So here is a picture I drew of my friend Curtis with Santa. Why?

Because he felt like it.

And here is a picture of me on a boat. That I will never be on. I hope you get that there is a sunset behind me, sorry if it's confusing.

Hanners and a photo

Look it's Hannah! And she looks awful, I am so sorry. It is 11:22 and it's no excuse so I am going to redo it...someday. I just wanted to say that she got an awesome haircut and this doodle does not do it justice.
It's really cute and short. YATA!

She's freaking awesome. She and I had Latin together and I think she is the only reason I survived. She's a genius at the translating thing and we had lots of laughs.

So we hung out today and talked about Star Trek, Doctor Who, missing Heroes, A Very Potter Musical and then we went to the mall and bought SOCKS. It's so classic Hannah.

OH! We saw really awesome Chucks at Journey's. They were Batman. I do not own this image, please, this is just for the awesomeness because they are awesome. Now some people may not understand: Hannah is a Batman fangirl. She has Batman everything, well maybe not everything but a belt buckle, and a shirt.
We got awesome socks, too! Hannah's are the card ones and mine are the blue-ish ones. I love socks, they go well with Chucks. They are my favorite shoe.

So just for fun, here's a picture completely unrelated to everything.

Tada! It's me, with brown hair...because senior pictures are deceiving? Yes, yes, I think so. I looked really strange in all of my senior portraits, the background was close to my hair color and even though I am a dirty blonde it made me look like a brunette. My eyes looked extremely small and out of place, and I was really pale. So much for a tan.

Luckily my mom said that she'd rather I go get my pictures done somewhere else so she doesn't have to pay a ton of money from this other place. Thank God.

Day 8: Elk Sausage

So on Saturday, July 24th I went with Jeff to a Native American Powow at a local park. It was extremely hot and I was sweating within minutes but it turned out to be a good experience.

I was given the opportunity to see traditional dances. Dances of the women were not very exciting, it was like watching someone walk around. The men were far more interesting and involved porcupine hair, eagle feathers and hoops!

As for the title, I am always up for new things and I ate elk sausage, it was good and spicy, how I like it.

We interviewed the lead dancer, to tell the truth, he was not very good in front of the camera.

Something I have learned with Jeff is that you can tell when someone is really trying in front of the camera and when they can do a lot better. There are people who you can get retakes from, and while it may be annoying to hear them say the same thing over and over, the end result is a lot better. However, people like the man above say "um" a lot and don't really know what to say and tend to end sentences like this and...yeah that's it. When people do this the whole message seems less important and editing becomes crucial.

Day 6: Ye Old Grange Fair

Ooh, aren't I artistic? That's my hand, holding a video camera, recording an interview.

I went out to a large part of land on Tuesday, July 20th. It was an interview for an upcoming, age old fair.

Honestly, it was not very interesting. I listened to this man talk about cows and horses and chicken dinners so much that my hand got tired. It was really a one-on-one thing and nothing exciting happened, that is if you don't count the exciting mower.

Day 7: There's no buisness like show buisness, like no buisness I know!

So a few days ago, Friday July 23rd, I went to a local high school to interview the cast and director for the musical Annie Get Your Gun. I have never seen this musical and I will be seeing that very same one this weekend, my cousin is in it.

It was really awesome, actually. I have never been able to see a dress rehearsal, or any rehearsal and I loved being able to watch them sing and act. What I found was most interesting was the fact that the director, left, would loudly say things to the whole cast while they were running through the play and they would just continue like nothing had been said.

First we interviewed the director and Jeff and I asked questions about the organization, it's a summer club/organization that teaches students about acting. Then we went inside the auditorium to watch them rehearse. After they finished that we interviewed some of the leads from both nights.

Music of the week TRES!

1. Viva La Gloria: Green Day
This is probably my favorite song in this album second only to The Last of the American Girls.

2. Here We Go: Super Junior
YAY! Bonamana album. I love this album, so much. So upbeat, it's a good end to a fantastic CD. I love this group and I cannot wait for another album of theirs.

3. Lose It All: Backstreet Boys
This is kind of a whiny song but on occasion I will listen to it. This album is very mature compared to their 90s albums and you can hear it in every song.

4. Cold Day in July: Dixie Chicks
This song, even though it is sad, can make me laugh. As a little kid I thought it was actually possible to have a cold day in July. When I was older I understood that it was a metaphor, but when I first heard this song I lived in Texas where cold days are rare all year round.

5. I Belong to You: Muse
I love the very beginning of this song because it reminds me of Panic! at the Disco. But sure enough the rest of this song is pure Muse. this album is worth investing in.

6. Believe in Me: Demi Lovato
I can really relate to this song. That's all I can really say.

7. Binguel: U-Kiss
Aw look at them dance. How nice. Hotness! A great Korean group, for sure. Check out the MV.

8. The Middle: Demi Lovato
This a good song! I remember listening to this album for the first time and immediately replaying this song. Check it out.

9. Perry the Platypus Theme Song: Phinias and Ferb
A-GENT P!!! I love this show, it's really funny and I practically am Candice. If you've never seen it then you should check it out!!!

10. Helena: My Chemical Romance
Awesome song! I think this was the first MCR song that I heard and it certainly made me want more. I think you'll like it too.

A Very Potter Sequel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH MY GOD. This is why I have not blogged in such a long time. This was TOTALLY AWESOME. I beg you, if you have not seen A Very Potter Musical, you have to watch it now. It only takes 3 hours and 30 minutes. It is probably the best musical I have ever seen. This is especially true because it is original, and everything is written and preformed by this group of college students.

However, if you are not a Harry Potter fan, or if you are, but have not read the books, or just haven't gotten around to the Deathly Hallows then I strongly suggest to avoid this amazing piece of work. You will not get the jokes and it won't be as enjoyable as it could be.

Comments on casting:

I died laughing when Joe Walker came out as Umbridge. I had seen the banner with the golden trio with a very muscular woman in pink leaning over them. I knew it had to be Umbridge but I had no idea he would be playing her. It actually took me quite a while to really realize that it was, in fact, him.

Nicky Lang as, well a lot of people, adorable! He really is so cute.

Rita Skeeter, I was sad to see that Jamie got such a small part, but I couldn't see her doing anything else.

LUCIOUS MALFOY. Oh my God, I immediately said "Wow, he's pretty good looking." And guess what, he's Cedric DIGory. I only discovered that at the end credits. His dancing was amazing.

Lauren Lopez, I know it was not a new casting but she amazed me once again. "I drew a picture of you!" This was just a laugh every time she was on stage.

GOYLE RUL---is a centaur? Hahah, my God, that was excellent. I saw the whole "Umbridge + Firenze" thing coming the whole time.

There are too many good things to say about this musical. But I will say this, my favorite part is when Joey Richter, Ron, went to removed the Taylor Lautner poster [Which was genius, by the way] and it was stuck and improvised with "It's magically stuck to the wall." and later with "Oh, look, they have that poster here, too. They have them in every room of this place."

THE EMOTION. I was "awing" all the time. SNAPE. <3 Joe Moses is the man. And the girl who played all of the extra characters, including Lily Evans, was wonderful.

Day 5: Vroom vroom

Except the cars were not making those noises at all...because it was a car show. My God, it was hot. I was only there for about two hours and I got crazy sunburn.

I went to a local town's car show with Jeff on Sunday July 18th. We walked around and took pictures and video of some cars. A man approached Jeff and told him about his family and how repairing cars had been in the family for three generations. Jeff took their picture in front of the American de France firetruck that everyone was excited about. [It was funny looking, there was a windshield that just looked like a monocle for a giant].

We went around and looked for people to interview and we asked some of the car owners what they thought about the car show. Most of them said that this one was the best they had been at and that others couldn't compare.

Eventually Jeff started to complain about the heat as well and we said goodbye. Hopefully I will be meeting with him again this week to get more hours in.

Day 4: Screaming at the computer

This is a very belated post. I actually went to the office for this a week ago on Monday the 12th.

When I walked in Jeff said "This is going to be really boring." And it was. I got to watch him sit in front of a computer monitor and play around with the layout and article on Quark.

The only mildly exciting thing about this was that I taught him something about Photoshop. Yay! He pulled up a picture of people holding a check and said that he hated them because when he changes the contrast the check just gets brighter and brighter. So I taught him how to select the check and then inverse it and then change the contrast. Genius, I know.

That was pretty much all I did. I went in expecting a team of people but got one guy in front of a computer. This was not what I expected. Jeff does 20 pages out of 32. Very, very slow stuff here.

A walrus on a mattress??

Enter my adorable dog, Shirley. Being a somewhat normal person I understand that because Shirley is not human and that I cannot communicate things to her with English it is perfectly reasonable for her to be scared of the air mattress in my office.

That's right, I have a dog that is afraid of an air mattress. I think this is mostly due to the fact that when you get up it makes noises and it is never really stable.

Today I saw an accidental interaction between the puppy and the evil mattress. She was running out of the office to say goodbye to my dad when she ran into the mattress and moved it. When she and I came back inside she promptly started howling at the rising mattress.

Having an irrational fear is completely normal, I think. Shirley also dislikes water in any form other than in her bowl. But snow is okay. If it is not falling from the sky, from a hose, or in a large body of water, she's good.

I, too, have my fair share of irrational fears. Do you see that thing? It's HUGE! And it has tusks, who ever had the genius idea to put a large tusk-wielding animal behind a thin glass cage is not a genius at all. Yes, I do know that the "thin wall of glass" is actually very thick, but this fact does not make me feel any better about the huge mammal. I mean, come on, the Saber Tooth Tiger didn't make it, why should this thing get to be all tusky?

I hope you could tell that was a walrus. They really freak me out. I think I first realized how afraid of them I was when I was around the age of eleven and my family went to the zoo for a day. I don't think I had ever been that close to a walrus before and there it sat, "Hey there little girl, like what you see?" And by that it meant, "Hey little girl, come over here so I can kill you with my tusks!" I seriously freaked out and had to walk out of the room.

However, like my dog and only liking water in its one form, I too do not mind tuskless walruses. Is the plural of walrus, walruses? I guess so. In any case I'd rather not see a ton of walruses walking around, thank you very much.

Do you have irrational fears? I'd really love to know.

Music of the week DOS!

1. She's Gone: G-Dragon
I love this guy. I only like Korean rap and it's because of him. Check out the music video, sexy! You want to be her, I'm telling you.

2. The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage: Panic! at the Disco
STILL SO YOUNG DESPERATE FOR ATTENTION! I AIM TO BE....Oh, hi there. I was just rocking out to P!ATD. No big deal. They have a great beat and even though this album of theirs is really sexual it is still perfect for a rebellious mood.

3. You Can't Always Get What You Want: Glee Cast
I have to admit, I don't really love this song. I remember watching the episode and thinking how the actors looked like they were lip-syncing, and I know they are, but this one really looked like it.

4. Blur: Britney Spears
Still an amazing album, just like last week. It really contrasts to the other songs in the album. Most of the songs are very powerful and this one is very unsure and she seems very vulnerable, but not in a "come get me" way.

5. When the Day Met the Night: Panic! at the Disco
This is my all-time favorite P!ATD song. It is such a good song. Whether you are in a bad or good mood this song will make you feel better. This may be my favorite song, tied with Mr. Blue Sky by ELO. Funny how my two favorite songs are very cheerful. Although I do really enjoy "I'm Not Okay" by My Chemical Romance

6. Fifteen: Taylor Swift
MY GOD! Do not listen to this. Especially if you are or about to be fifteen. None of this is true, seniors want nothing to do with freshmen, trust me. Pssh, what does Taylor Swift know? She can't even sing on command. I haven't even watched the music video, so have fun with what that may be.

7. Not Alone (Reprise): AVPM Cast
I was hoping for this. I am about to watch A Very Potter Musical with a very good friend of mine. It was bound to happen. The link will send you to the beginning. It is amazing. Watch it.

8. You'll Always Find Your Way Back Home: Hannah Montana (or is it??)
Okay, I will admit, this song is really catchy. I won't say that the costume change in that final scene is realistic at all but I will sing along to this song when it comes on. The album is not just Miley, Hannah and well more Miley, it has a lot of really good artists on it too. Well except for her father, which I am considering taking off my MP3 because I always skip him.

9. Follow Me: 2ne1
Amazing music video. Amazing band. Check them out!!

10. The Static Age: Green Day
I LOVE THIS ALBUM! But there are very few times where I get to sit down and listen to the whole thing. This is the song of our generation.

Sorry about the length problem at the end, I was rushed for time. Harry Potter, you know.

BIRDEMIC, the next Spring Break Shark Attack?

Article Thingy

"Best and Worst Movies of the Year... So Far"

I saw this through my homepage today and decided to check it out. Though I have not seen some of these movies I do wish to give my own opinion in regards to this "article."

Best Movie: Inception
Awe Leo, how I adore you. I am most definitely going to see this movie. I do know some who believe it will be similar to the matrix but I say "Nay!" I have never seen that series and anything with Leo is guaranteed to be better and hotter.
Runner Up: Winter's Bone
I have never previously heard of this movie and the IMDB description of it doesn't seem very interesting, but given the opportunity I would most likely watch it.

Worst Movie: Valentine's Day
Okay, it wasn't completely terrible. Sure it should have been better with all of those stars but at the same time, how could it have been? Usually movies are really good because of one or two actors, this just had too much to take in.
Runner Up: The Last Airbender
God, this should have been first. Honestly, I have not seen this movie. I refuse to. You may say "How can you judge the movie if you have not seen it?" and I was definitely one of those people before it came out. Notice that word: before. Then the very friend who got me into the Nickelodeon show five years ago told me that Sokka was being pronounced like "Coke" instead of "sock." That was the end of the line. Aang was pronounced "ong," what is that? I was totally against the idea that the casting was racist against Asians, this is mostly because I don't view the characters in the show as having race. When I heard that the pronunciation changes were due to a desire to sound more authentically Asian I was mad. GAH! This movie...

Best Worst Movie: Birdemic: Shock and Terror
HAHAHA! This is next on the list, baby! A friend of mine and I have a theory that all hilariously bad movies have colons in them. It is so true! I might actually have to see this now.
Runner Up: Sex and the City 2
I have seen the first one, and it is one of those movies you can watch without seeing the series, which really says something about the plot. I will watch it when it goes on TV though.

Worst Actress: Jennifer Aniston, Bounty Hunter
I say good for her for continuing to act but this was a terrible movie. Not interesting in the least bit.
Runner Up: Jenifer Lopez
I haven't seen the movie she was in and I don't plan to.

Worst Actor: John Travolta [in that movie with Love]
Yeah...he's not always the best actor. He looked pretty weird with a bald cap, let's just not go there.
Runner Up: Tom Cruise
Here that ladies and gentlemen! Tom can't do comedy! I actually do not like him very much so I avoid him at all costs and didn't really expect this movie to do well.

Best Kiss: Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum
Way to go girl. She got both first place and runner up. Granted her runner up kiss was with a girl but she is crazy versatile! Amanda Seyfried has been around everywhere. She has done Dear John, Letters to Juliet, Jenifer's Body, and now Chloe. I wonder if she will win some award.

Best on Screen Duo: Tina Fey and Steve Carrel, Date Night
I really wanted to see this movie, so bad, but I never got around to it. I am not surprised that they were amazing together and I cannot wait to see it when it comes out on DVD.

So there you go, my first movie analysis post. I did not go over every single movie that the website discussed, this is mostly because I did not know many of them.

In case you did not know, the Doctor Who season finale is on next Saturday and even though I have already seen it I guarantee it will be better on a real TV. I cannot wait. Expect a fangirl post next Saturday.

Congrats, you're a senior. Now go and make a life decision, without our help of course.

I guess it's one of those things that I should be excited about, and I am, but sometimes I just don't know what to think about it.

The word "college" does not encompass this process, an actual college can be very small, smaller than 2,000 people even. That's smaller than my school, I think. Still, it's small. A "university" is a collection of colleges that involve different majors and many more people. A state college is a school that receives funds from the state and the cost of one of these is generally less. A private college, or university, is one that makes all of its money independent to the state, which usually means that it costs more money so they can pump cash from parents.

I have found that many state colleges are nearly the same; they have all of the same majors and do not stand out in the least bit.

We've been told to "apply early" and to get into the process early on and once we get there, when we know what's going on, we find out that we had no clue what was happening.

I recently applied to a college because I am going to be visiting it soon and if I applied early I wouldn't have to pay a fee. Big mistake on my part. Websites for colleges make it seem so easy. "Apply Now!" and counselors understate the process. As soon as I applied I received an email that said,

"Thank you for your application to ______. We are pleased that you are considering ______ and look forward to working with you during the admission process.

Because you applied online, we may or may not have received all the documentation needed to review your file. A complete file includes the admission application, official high school transcript, SAT and/or ACT scores, and class rank, if applicable. Although not required, an essay and letters of recommendation are suggested. The Secondary School Report is also very helpful when reviewing your file. You should print the form and give it to your high school counselor or advisor for completion. And, please make every effort to complete your file within the next three weeks."

Great, I thought. I'll just email my counselor, they made it seem easy. Well turns out that I can't get any of these forms sent until September, why? Because no one is in school until September! So why, oh why, did I do this to myself? It's because I finally think I know what's going on.

I think maybe knowing what's going on this early in the process is not the best thing for me. I find myself talking to people about college and I'm excited. Then I get home and tell my mom about my new finds college wise and then I find a con about the college, go on a mass search through the College Board and then get extremely discouraged. But I can't stop! I can't just stop looking up colleges, summer is the best time to look at colleges, or that's what they say.

If I stopped now I would lose track of what I really want to do. In a way I'm glad that I'm crossing colleges off my list but with every new college that has something that I want I find a reason to dislike it.

Today I found a college from a suggestion I was given and I became really excited about a major it offered; I didn't mind that it was a short distance from my home because I have been looking for major over any other factor such as location, cost [I mean that would certainly be a factor later on], or name. When I mentioned the distance to my mom I got the idea that A] she thought that because of the closeness it was a commuter college and that I would not receive boarding or B] because it was close she would rather I stay home and commute to the college.

This "commuting" is not ideal. I don't dislike my home life, I love my parents and brothers but when people say "picture yourself in your dorm, what do you see?" I really don't see myself sitting in my bedroom trying to write an essay while my brothers complain to my parents, yelling down the hallway.

I was given the advice from a local state school graduate to commute until Junior year, in which she suggested to get an apartment. As a social person I said I was worried about not knowing anyone on campus, which she said would not be possible. Then I said that I was worried that I would never get anything done. [Thinking about it now, I almost know that is true. I love television and being at home it would be as if nothing changes and I would slack off and watch TV instead of doing my work]. She told me that at the college she attended no one was ever in the library and if I commuted I would be more likely to be in the library. [Which I think is silly, because I think that I might be more inclined to avoid the library and socialize because I will see people less frequently to begin with. Also, I think that if I commuted that I would have less free time on campus to go to the library]. But she says that my hours would be different from my family members and it wouldn't be so much of a problem.

I am not so sure. I am completely unsure about the entire thing. I see my graduated friends and wonder how they decided on a college at all.

I feel that going to college is like the change of seasons, it has to happen. But commuting is when it turns to summer and it is insanely hot and what do you have? An air conditioner that is broken and keeps the room at the same temperature. So you are sitting in college, but not really because it's just like you're home and you never left, all that's new is the broken air conditioner. [This may not make much sense but what I'm trying to say is that you're in the same place you were the year before but you feel different and you have a ton of work that never really existed before [that's the AC]].

On top of all of this I have to go GP and I can honestly say that I do not want to write an article about a signing of a paper that opened a national park. It's so boring. Would I rather read about 1950s cowboys and write an essay or write an essay about a park I know nothing about? What do you think?

I know this must be the same thing being said from every high school senior but I just have to say it. I hope this gets easier. I really do.

I love a man in uniform

So in the interest to save my small circle of readers a ton of agony I will not be posting about searching for colleges, or taking senior pictures. [OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!] Instead, I am going to talk about baseball. Don't run away yet! I'm not talking about the game, I'm talking about the players.

The Phillies are an amazingly good looking team. Don't believe me? Well...

In honor of my good friend Nick who will constantly say "Chase Utley, he's the man." I will begin with none other than Chase himself. Awe he's so cute. And there are so many pictures of him with puppies! Who doesn't like a guy who likes puppies?

Look at this home-run hitter! He's just a big teddy bear. Definitely a person I think is worth meeting, given the opportunity of course.

Speaking of teddy bears...anyone up for a Hawaiian? Oh well, they only have mongoose there. OUTFIELDER, they never get respect, but he has earned his unlike some other people....Awe cutie!

Justify FullPITCHER! Sure, you don't get to see him as often as the other players, but that just shows how good he is. Just kidding, he's a pitcher, there are quite a few of them. But he's awesome anyway. So awesome that I have another picture of him.

This, my dears, is Cody Ransom. He previously played for the minor league team the Iron Pigs, which I have seen in person. I have high hopes for him, now only if he had a personality or was interviewed...

This is why I love baseball. No, not for the guys, okay maybe I do have a thing for guys in baseball uniforms, what of it? In baseball you get to see the reactions on all of the players' faces, and that, to me, shows how good the team is. Baseball just makes me happy.

Music of the week

This post was inspired by my cousin Lauren! She has great ideas.

1. Womanizer: Britney Spears
That's right, I jumped on that bandwagon. As soon as this came out I knew I had to get her new CD. After her failed comeback, a shamed one at that, I had little hope for her, but this CD is great and I recommend it.

2. Imagine: Glee Cast
I cannot wait for this show to come back. Get me some of that Artie. Yeah, that's right. I've known about this wonderful man called Kevin McHale since his boy band days. Boy band? What's that, you say? Well they broke up for him to do Glee but he was really great in that too.

3. Cancer: My Chemical Romance
Such a sad song. I love this band, honestly. I know a lot of people say "MCR saved my life," I believe it. This is a band that can bring out the strangest sides in people, my mom even likes this CD. I want another!

4. Disco: Metro Station
I will admit, I do usually skip this song. In this album there are only a few good songs. I believe this is one of my good friend's favorite song of theirs. [The grammar in that last sentence, I'm sorry.]

5. My Beautiful Woman: Backstreet Boys
You know that song that is singing about your gender and when you sing it out loud it just sounds weird to other people? This is that song. It is so catchy and it's great to sing, and dance along to.

6. Hate U: 2pm
What a band. I feel for them, they lost their leader in a mysterious ordeal. There are no words to express how awful I feel for them when I listen to "Tired of Waiting."

7. Get Back: Demi Lovato
I have to admit, I was nervous about this album when I saw this music video. After watching Camp Rock and witnessing the horrible "dancing" preformed by Demi I was worried for her singing career. I do like her voice though.

8. Again and Again: 2pm
I still love this band, even two numbers down. Good song, that's pretty much it.

9. Losing It: Nevershoutnever
I love this album, it's a little short, but I love it.

10. She's a Handsome Woman: Panic! at the Disco
Good band to end a post on. This album is awesome. It's great for the bus during the spring, it just bleeds springtime. As opposed to their previous album that was sex, lies and, well, more sex. This band! I just love their vocabulary in everything they do. Now I want to listen to the whole album.

Thanks to Lawn for the great idea.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue

That's right, I want a T.A.R.D.I.S. for my wedding. It's not too much to as, is it? TARDIS stands for Time and Realitive Dimensions in Space. If you have seen the season finale you would know that Amy used this phrase to remember the Doctor.

I cannot wait for the next season. However, I am opposed to the idea of a Doctor Who movie...mostly because the proposed idea involved Johnny Depp, who I love, playing the Doctor. The reason I have a problem with this is because both the show and the movie would be going on at the same time...with two different Doctors.

The director of this proposed movie wants to draw in viewers for the show, but how can this be done if they expect to see Depp and they get Smith?

Ah well. I love this show all the same. Short post for once.

Rainbows + Bananas = Death

Oh Mario Kart Wii why must you torture me? I was having such a lovely time on Luigi's Circut and Moo Moo Meadows and thinking that with a name like Rainbow Road nothing could ever go wrong.

Well I should have known that thinking "What could possibly go wrong?" is a signal for all things to go wrong.

Okay, I have played MKW before and I have attempted Rainbow Road before; I hate it. I was playing with my brother on a team race. I was absolutely against the level and threatened to cry if I was forced to participate, my other brother even screamed out in disapproval of the level...but no, we raced it.

Going as slowly as possible I embarked on this journey that was sure never to end. I openly decided that this level was the worst to have any "effects" like bananas, shells, red boxes, anything! I would not want to hit any of them and I wouldn't want to give them to anyone else, mostly because I know that I am perfectly good at falling off the road without their help.

Speaking of when I fell off. I was coasting safely at first place for the first half of the road, nice and easy. Suddenly there wasn't a road anymore and my brother burst out laughing at my obnoxious "WOAAAAAAAAAAAH" for a response. He, however, did not fall off the rainbow as a result of his laughter.

I would estimate that I fell off the track at least ten times and went from first to twelfth to fourth and then to not finishing. Although, there was a fair share of my brother's screams of agony when he hit a banana and fell off the road. I think he only got fifth place.

And thus ends a wonderful rant on Mario Kart.

Super Junior Music Video Freakout!

I don't know how to express my fangirling without sounding like a freak. It has yet to come to this blog but I am extremely into the KPOP culture, this being songs, clothing, everything. I got into it back in ninth grade and have always looked for new ways to experience it.

I don't have enough time to explain everything that I have ever loved about KPOP, this post will be dedicated to this music video. [Thanks Noelle!]

The dancing isn't the best in this music video but I could care less, how cute are they?! And of course, my favorite member Eunhyuk is in the front of all of the dancing. I love that about him. He's such a great dancer.

Eunhyuk: Dancing is great, I love his blond hair, and shirtless! Who doesn't love a guy who can dance without a shirt? The cowboy boots crack me up. His rapping is sophisticated and wonderful. And that smile at the camera! -swoon-

Donghae: It's the reprise of the rose! Awe, he is just too cute with that smile and look of nervousness. Cute kid.

Reyowook: Points to him! Washing a car all alone. I love how he keeps looking over the car to see if she's returning. He's a great singer and pulls the song together.

Siwon: Wow, what a weird way to start the song...tying your girlfriend's shoes; shoes that are never revealed. He seems to be on the sidelines during this video. I'm okay with that. Oh, I wonder if that girl was his fiance, that would be cute.

Kyuhyun: What's up with his shirt? Oh well, effort for putting that poster together. His hair looks good too. And as usual his singing brings the song together.

Leeteuk: THE HAT! I got a good laugh out of that. Cute with taking pictures.

Heechul: I am so proud of him. In the last music video he looked extremely apathetic but this time around he pulled his act together and looked great. I don't get the pants though.

Shindong: Awe, sweetheart.

Sungmin: The hair! He looks sophisticated and adorable. Playing the piano. :) Check out around 1:48, sneaking over?

Yesung: Balloons! There wasn't much of him in this music video, except at the end. Oh and with the kids. Cute.

I'm forgetting someone...Oh, no I'm not. There are only nine of them in this music video. Who is missing? Well Hangeng is suing SM, Kangin is serving in the military, and Kibum just disappeared. AH! For some reason Siwon isn't in any other part of the music video other than the beginning. Maybe he was shooting a movie. Wow, I just counted wrong. Go me!

Some of my favorite scenes:

[unfortunately I couldn't get a good shot of Eun dancing].

GP Post # 4

Video: Worries Over Circle Contacts Trend
Editor: Unknown
Link

There are so many things to be said about this video. First it worries me that I cannot find and author or an editor anywhere because then I may not have the chance to use it in my GP. Second, this will be the only time Lady Gaga shows up in my blog posts, I promise. Third, "Japanese Cartoons?!" Whatever, call them what you like, I know what they are, you know what they are, and it all started with graphic novels.

On to the real important stuff. This video covers the latest trend in young girls [I had never heard of this until today, some trend]. They are essentially color contacts, which existed before this huge trend, where the iris is larger than a normal color contact. Okay, sounds harmless, right? Well the FDA has not approved them in the United States, I take that to mean that businesses cannot make these products but people can go and buy them from other countries to have them shipped to the USA. Loop hole? I think so.

I was a little bothered when the reporter said that Lady Gaga was inspired by manga. Sure, I saw that music video, I like the song, and I did look at her eyes and say "Hm, that's a little freakish; so what, it's Lady Gaga." Honestly I didn't think anything of it, I wasn't determined to make my eyes look huge and freakish like many characters in mangas that I have read. The reporter also clearly says that her eyes were bigger due to changes made with a computer. She wasn't wearing contacts! So this makes me think that the news company used Lady Gaga to draw attention to this topic because the story would be exactly the same without her; people would be less interested in it and think "Oh, it's just a bunch of nerds with weird contacts."

Being a contact wearer myself I saw this and just thought how funny it was that people who do not need contacts or glasses were putting these contacts in and losing their eyesight because of an infection. Ha! When I was younger I never let anyone wear my glasses because when you wear someone's glasses that are not your own your eyes may adjust and later need those glasses for yourself.

I also found it amusing that people want these things so they can look like fictional characters. It brought me back to the day when I was reading Kare First Love with all of my friends, it's a great series, I highly suggest it. In the first or second book the main character decides to wear contacts instead of her glasses. There is a full page where it shows her with the contact on her finger putting it near her eyes. OH YES! I found it. Good, here we go.

The yellow didn't come out the way I would have liked it, but that's beside the point. Here we see Karin putting in a contact for the first time. Notice the size difference between her eye and the contact she is about to put on her eye. Any normal person can identify that the contact will cover maybe a fifth of her eye. You may say "Why didn't the artist just make the contact bigger?" Well, friend, think about it. How would it look for a perfectly normal sized finger to have a big floppy lens on it? It would look bad! Silly even, sillier than this picture above. This is reasonably acceptable for one of two reasons. Number One: Karin has a rare eye enlargement mutation in which it causes her eyes to be, well enlarged. Number Two: She is a character in a Japanese Manga in which all characters have eyes nearly half the size of their face.

I'm going to go with the latter. It's true, in most mangas and animes the people involved just have larger eyes. This quality is not one to aspire to have, it's not even cool.

So in reality the situation with Karin would be opposite for most human girls. Karin has a big eye and a small contact. Every other girl in the real world has a normal eye and a contact with a huge iris. See something wrong with that?

I guess we're always trying to improve ourselves and this is just a new way for people to do that. Maybe one day they will be legal, then fine, do what ever you like with your eyes, but for now maybe it should be forgotten. Some things like huge eyes are just not meant to be. I personally believe that changing your eye color shows an insecurity you may have with your own eye color, the same is true for hair color. I say if you were born with that color then keep it, you are who you are, not some shade of purple, red or blue.

Rock + Mermaid = Rock and Roll?

This is a drawing of a rock...in the ocean. I originally tried to draw a mermaid on the rock but it didn't really work out. I really like photoshop, it's great. I like the waves more than anything in this picture, they look so floaty.

Hey there! This is a mermaid I drew...it's not me as a mermaid, though. Crazy hair, right? Wow, the tail looked a lot better before I colored it in....oh well.

I should use this post to actually write instead of just posting pictures. Isn't it wonderful to find new music?

STOP THE PRESSES! In the middle of blogging I came upon a video that I need to write a post about. Soon to come!

They know that you know, and it's not the CIA

There comes a time in every young adult's life when she realizes certain invisible barriers have been torn down, but not like the Berlin Wall, no! This action was done with swiftness, agility, such an event could be compared to the removal of Stalin's statue in his hometown.

What is this moment when this realization occurs? When your parent says "Oh, she's heard that one before." Sure, you may know the inappropriate joke, word or phrase, but perhaps you are under the illusion that your parents don't know that you know.

It's a lie.

Your parents are very aware of what you know. Also I feel that when the eldest child learns of some secret code or something inappropriate at any age it just makes the age for the younger siblings to learn that very same thing even lower. For example: When I learned the meaning of a curse word at the age of fourteen, then my youngest brother learned it at eleven. BETTER EXAMPLE: [spoiler alerts for young children and the young at heart] I proved that Santa was not real when I was twelve, it may be a bit old but whatever, my youngest brother stopped believing when he was about ten.

It must be this aura "knowing" gives off, a presence, if you will.

So back to parents. When they start freely cursing and making references to things that you would rather not know about that's when you know they know. When you find yourself awkwardly watching TV with two adults laughing at a toothbrush commercial. Are you allowed to laugh, or are you better off playing the innocent card? Trust me, they know. If you are daring and decide to play the innocent card for such a long time and there comes a point in which the card is no longer available they may act surprised, but trust me, they aren't.

Some things are tolerable, such as curses and sexual references in movies. However, I have to draw the line at references to real events. I do not want to know about why the song "Blame it on the Alcohol" relates to the most recent addition to your family. I also would like to be exempt of all the gory details. Corruption of the young? How about corruption of those who don't care?

I apologize for lacking a direction in this post but I had to get it out, some things are just not appropriate no matter who you may think knows or does not know. Regardless on whether the people in the room are old enough to hear it does not mean they want to hear it. Honestly, no one really does.

"The children are melting!"

I like writing in a chair in front of a computer. Normally I sit at the dining room table with Francis and lean over it and God, it cannot be good for my back. I mean, I'm not leaning back into the chair or anything but it's nice to be at a computer at eye level. Sorry Francis.

Francis is my laptop if you haven't caught on. See I got him back at the end of the summer, I paid for most of him. He's pink and he's proud of it. Okay, you must be saying "This girl is insane, talking about her PC like it's alive." Truth is, I do that a lot. I do it to my dog all the time. I like to think she doesn't mind. I'm pretty sure it's not that uncommon. Personification is just another way for me to vent my creativity.

Why did I name him Francis? Well that's because of my father. He likes to say "Dara Ann Francis sitting in a tree..." so in honor of my dad [and because I didn't make my confirmation name Francis] I named him that. I have a friend with a whole household full of Lord of the Rings characters for computers. My mother's is "Urg" for all the times she has screamed at it.

Technology is so interesting lately; some transition, huh? Maybe it's not the technology that has me captivated, it's the people. With my recent lack of restraint regarding watching early episodes of Doctor Who I have fallen prey to the infamous Youtube! I mean, Charlie is partially responsible for my obsession with the show but because I have watched all of Charlie McDonnell and Alex Day's videos I had nothing to watch...and then I found the Vlog Brothers.

Normally two brothers vlogging would not interest me too much...but one of them is an author! John Green, I have not read any of his novels but I have read Scott Westerfield's! How do they relate? They're friends!

Oh, Scott Westerfield, creator of Peeps, The Last Days, So Yesterday and The Uglies Saga. I don't like the last series; this is mostly because the entire series is from a girl's point of view and I really like Westerfield's books that focus on a male character. I feel that he portrays females as floaty and stereotypical, but being a man he captures a different side of male characters which I find intriguing. I recomend Peeps, it's wonderful!

-Insert transition here- THE HEAT! I'm melting, or rather, the children are. The title is a quote from one of the parents at the bike decorating contest I went to for my GP. Okay, I'm exaggerating, I was melting this afternoon; it is almost 10:30 and my face is in place, not sliding off.

Meet one of the many groundhogs dwelling under my neighbor's shed; they eat our grass. Crazy, crazy, fat, fast running rodents.

Day 3: Bicycle! I want to ride my bike!

Happy Fourth everyone! That's the first time that I've said that all day. Truth is it doesn't feel like the Fourth of July without a parade. The holiday fell on a Sunday this year which meant that my neighborhood decided to have the annual parade on Saturday to avoid traffic problems with people going to church. It so happens that I had to go with Jeff to a bike decorating contest in a local town...at the same time.

The rest of this post has been done the day after the 4th because I got sucked into the wonderful confusion that is Bye Bye Birdie in which I realized that my generation is the one most likely to relate to that musical. And the dancing, what was that?! And then Oklahoma! came on, and I love that musical but never finished it because it was way too hot to be awake.

Okay enough of the musicals. If you can't tell, I love them.

So on that wonderful Saturday morning I got up and with the help of my lovely father found the way to this bike contest just in time to meet up with Jeff. Turns out the newspaper that Jeff works for runs the contest every year, so I saw the woman I met before again [her name is Paula!].

Little kids on wheels! So cute, the weather wasn't too bad and it was really fun to see little kids ride around on their Fourth of July bikes, streamers, dogs, lights, hats, helmets! The whole shebang! I got to meet even more people that Jeff knows, I swear he knows everyone, and he and I have determined that a shadow [a.k.a. me] is not an intern because I don't do work for him, I just follow him around.

I'm a little disappointed at the moment because I took all of these great videos of kids on their bikes and I was going to make a montage but my camera wouldn't cooperate with Windows Movie Maker. I will put up pictures later!

Day Two: Jungle Joe in the industrial zoo

Okay, so I'm up to date, I just hope I can keep this up. Today I met Jeff at the mysteriously hidden local zoo. The zoo happens to be in the same county as my grandparents and I had never heard of it. When I drove over, thank you Mapquest, I realized why I had never heard of it: it was in the middle of an industrial center where buildings were rising.

Sure enough when I got there, early, there were families making their way to the zoo. I spent a good fifteen minutes just looking around at all of the signs in the small lobby. I talked to one of the workers, Dina, who told me about the zoo's goal for a 200 acre plot of land to expand the zoo in a more permanent home. She and I also shared common ground because both of our names started with D. I got a good chance to look at two large world maps, one of prehistoric animals [dinos, extinct animals] and another of modern day animals. I loved seeing all of the herbivores' friendly faces and the toothy grins of the carnivores.

I met up with Jeff and was introduced to Jungle Joe, former police officer, wildlife conservationist extraordinaire and Batman fanboy. [I hope that's alright to say, because he really was]. The interview was about Joe's recent trip down to the Gulf of Mexico. He took it upon himself to go down with a group of people and learn what exactly people were doing to help ease the situation.

BOOM

Boom is what is used to keep oil off of plants and shores, there are three layers of plastic and it was a little confusing to learn about what with the word BOOM always coming into play. Joe talked about the pelicans and how they are being affected when the oil gets on them. Actually so much was discussed in this interview I cannot cover it all. He talked about how fishermen were being paid to skim, communities and the Fish and Wildlife services working to clean the beaches and animals. He even mentioned how they are trying to trick some migratory birds into going to Texas.

Just above in that picture I'm holding a SPOT tracker. Joe uses it so that the people who read his SPOT blog can see where he is and where he has been, this was useful for when he was down by the gulf. He estimates that down there alone they covered at least eight thousand miles.

After the interview we got to look inside the zoo where I got to pet a small, big eared Australian Fox named Frankie. I was surprised at how many diverse animals such a small zoo could have. There was an Eagle Owl that had imprinted [eh, eh Jacob fans] on Joe as a small baby bird and was hooing at us. There were lemurs! I love lemurs, so cute. It was a great experience and thanks to my AP Environmental class I knew all about what Joe was saying.

If this crisis should teach us anything it's this: oil may have occurred naturally on Earth but it was not meant to be used by humans, we only do selfish things with it. Alternative energy is the way to go, the way to be. Generations of species may be altered because of this event, let's make sure that we do our best to teach the next generation not to make the same mistakes so that whatever is left of these species is not lost forever.

Day 1: Washington Crossing

Yesterday, I know I should have blogged about it the day it happened but I went to go see Eclipse, I officially started shadowing Jeff, the editor of a local newspaper. After standing around for about fifteen minutes, the receptionist had no idea who I was looking for and just let me in, I met a woman named Petra [pronounced Peetra, she and I had a great conversation about people mispronouncing our names]. She sat me down and with Jeff's absence told me her schedule for that day and how she was going to go about writing the article. She even asked me to decide which order the topics would go in: Road Improvement, Video Broadcasting and Wind Power. I chose this order because road improvement is the most relevant to local people because it will affect them the most and wind power is a long term effect that may not happen for quite some time.

A bit later Jeff came in and got organized. Despite the fact that he is an editor his desk is just like everyone else, even his manager has the same form of desk. He introduced me to this woman, whose name escapes me, but her office was in a separate room, I guess she is important. She was the first of many to tell me that Jeff was the right man to shadow.

Okay I have to move faster...Then we went to Washington Crossing where there was a signing of this document. The situation was this: The park usually gives interpretative tours to members of the community and school trips, this means that reenactors teach people about the history of the park. However, with the government cutting funds back in November these tours stopped. Then a group of about fifteen people got together from the community and volunteered to run the park for free. So the event I went to was a signing of a legal document that allows the group to run and redo the visitor center. There was also a "ribbon cutting," which was more like George Washington cutting a rope with his sword.

I got the chance to see Jeff in action, I swear he knew everyone. He asked for statements, was friendly, and, to my surprise, was recording the whole thing. I asked him later how he managed not to take notes the whole time and he pulled out a clunky recorder, it amazes me how he hid it. Before the rope cutting I was given the task of using the video recorder to well, record videos of speeches. I admit, my finger did slip in front of the camera once.

Then came the stressful part, Jeff actually knows what he is doing! Which is great, but I was taken by surprise when he said things like "What did you learn? What would your lead be?" Now, I am not an "on the spot" writer, I need time to think. I can only hope that I will get better at this.
